Importing from LinkedIn
If your LinkedIn profile is up to date, you can use it to pre-fill your resume in Krokanti CV Builder instead of typing everything from scratch. The import process takes about five minutes and brings in your work history, education, and skills automatically.
Step 1: Export Your Data from LinkedIn
LinkedIn does not provide a direct API integration, so the import works via a data export from LinkedIn's settings.
- Log in to LinkedIn
- Click your profile photo in the top right and go to Settings and Privacy
- Click Data privacy in the left sidebar
- Under How LinkedIn uses your data, click Get a copy of your data
- Select Want something in particular? and check Profile and Connections (Profile is sufficient for the resume import)
- Click Request archive
- LinkedIn will email you when the archive is ready — this typically takes 10 minutes, but can take up to 24 hours
Step 2: Download and Locate the CSV File
When you receive the email from LinkedIn, click the link to download your archive. It is a .zip file. Extract it and look for the following CSV files:
Profile.csv— your basic information, headline, and summaryPositions.csv— your work experience entriesEducation.csv— your education historySkills.csv— your listed skills
You do not need all of these — the minimum required for a useful import is Positions.csv.
Step 3: Import in Krokanti CV Builder
- From the Krokanti CV Builder dashboard, click New Resume
- Select Import from LinkedIn
- Drag and drop (or click to browse) your CSV files into the upload area. You can upload multiple CSVs at once.
- Click Import
- The importer will show you a preview of what will be created. Review it and click Confirm Import.
Your resume will be created with blocks pre-filled from your LinkedIn data.
What Gets Imported
| LinkedIn Data | Resume Block | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Name, headline | Personal Details | Headline becomes the job title field |
| Summary | Professional Summary | Imported as-is, recommend rewriting |
| Positions | Work Experience | One entry per position |
| Education | Education | One entry per degree |
| Skills | Skills | All listed skills imported as tags |
What Does Not Get Imported
- Recommendations — not included in the data export
- Certifications — add these manually using the Certifications block
- Projects — add these manually using the Projects block
- Profile photo — LinkedIn does not include this in CSV exports
- Connections — contact data is not used in the import
After Importing
The import gives you a strong starting point, but it is not a finished resume. We recommend:
- Rewrite your Professional Summary — LinkedIn summaries are often too casual for a formal resume
- Add achievement-focused bullet points — LinkedIn positions often have minimal descriptions
- Review skills — remove skills that are outdated or irrelevant to your current target role
- Check date formats — occasionally LinkedIn exports dates in formats that need minor correction
- Run the ATS score — see Understanding Your ATS Score for next steps
Troubleshooting Import Issues
"Invalid file format" error Make sure you are uploading the CSV files from inside the LinkedIn archive, not the zip file itself.
Work experience entries are missing
Check that you downloaded the Positions.csv file specifically. The general Profile.csv does not always include full work history.
Dates show as "Invalid date" This happens with some regional LinkedIn accounts that export dates in non-standard formats. Correct the dates manually in the Work Experience blocks after import.
